Landscaping & Lawn Care FAQs

One of the best ways to find a trustworthy contractor is by word of mouth. Ask friends or neighbors who they would recommend.

Another way is to check with the Better Business Bureau, local Chamber of Commerce, or Trade Organization.

Longevity in the industry is a good indicator of quality work and customer service also.

Online reviews can be helpful tools as well.

It may seem to simple, but mow it when you think it needs it. The specific length of time will vary based on weather conditions, fertilization amount, turf species, and how long or short you usually keep it growing.

The general rule is not to remove more than one-third of the length of the glass blade, so bear that in mind.

Your lawn will grow faster in spring and fall than in the summer months. The longer the grass is, the longer it takes to mow it, and in some cases, you may need to collect the clippings.

Most importantly, no matter when you mow, always use a sharp blade!

Generally speaking Spring is the best time for planting  flowering perennials and annuals.

Summer is usually the time for construction of larger projects and hardscaping.

Fall is the best for installing trees and shrubs and repairing summer damage.

Aeration and overseeding should be done in early spring or early fall. Both times are when the turf is actively growing.

This process is stressful to the turf, so it should not be done when the plants are already stressed out

We prefer to do this work in the fall after the summer heat and humidity have done their damage and your lawn looks its worst.

Fall seeding allows the grass plants to develop a robust root system and will be fully developed by the following summer.

This is not the case with spring aeration and overseeding as the plants are still young when summer heat arrives.

Mulching your beds is an important step because mulch helps to retain moisture, keeps sunlight from reaching the soil and allowing seeds to germinate.

Mulch also contributes to the health of the soil as it slowly breaks down by adding organic material. In a time with record rainfall, mulch helps control erosion.

Whether or not you hire a professional is up to you.

However, our time is extremely precious these days. Most of us don’t have the time or inclination to meticulously look after everything that is going on with our properties. We have way too much to do as it is.

A professional team that is dedicated and experienced enough to recognize problems as they begin is very beneficial.

Recognizing and acting on these problems when they are small prevents them from becoming major and costly issues.
